2024 Flu Vaccines

You are able to book in to receive your annual flu vaccine during one of our dedicated flu clinics by clicking here.

What is Influenza?

Influenza, commonly referred to as ‘the flu’ is an acute viral illness that mainly affects the respiratory system.

Influenza spreads easily, mainly through sneezing and coughing. The flu can also be spread by touching infected surfaces with your hands, to the nose, mouth or eyes.

The most common symptoms of influenza are:

  • fever
  • dry cough
  • nasal congestion
  • headache
  • sore throat
  • fatigue

Although flu symptoms are similar to Covid-19 symptoms, Covid-19 vaccines are not effective against influenza. It is important that you receive your flu vaccine to provide yourself and those you care for with protection against the virus.

Who is eligible for Government Funded Flu Vaccines?

You are eligible for a government funded (free) flu vaccine if you are:

  • 65 years and older
  • a child aged 6 months to <5 years
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Pregnant
  • Have a chronic disease that puts you at a higher risk from Influenza

If you do not match the above criteria, you are eligible for the private $25 flu vaccine.

Can you get a Covid Booster at the same time as the flu vaccine?

The following patients are eligible to receive their booster at the same time as their flu vaccine (given that it has been at least 6 months since their last booster/COVID-19 infection)
